Can raccoons break through the ceiling?

Can raccoons break through the ceiling?

You may found the raccoon in early spring or winter. They are excellent climbers so they can get access to anywhere where they want to live. A female raccoon can give birth to 7 babies, so at a time, they may have 4-5 babies, and with them, they may decide to live on the top side of your ceiling, it means they are going to provide enough weight on one side.

Raccoons in drop ceiling

It is one of the weakest ceilings as it is made up of fiber material and almost looks like a card-box. The ceiling is weak and does not support the weight. So just imagine a raccoon try to live on the drop ceiling along with their babies; it will fail to carry their weight and may result in ceiling damage.

Raccoon in Drywall ceiling

Compare to the drop ceiling drywall ceiling is stronger, but when it becomes the shelter of a raccoon, especially when they have 4-7 babies, it is almost difficult to support their weight. There are chances this ceiling may bear their weight, but they have a strong claw that they use to make the hole and spaces to get in deeper places that is enough to break and damage your ceiling. It is important you must have a plan to get rid of raccoons from your ceiling, and next time they did not get any way to get through the ceiling. Here are some tips to get rid of the raccoon from the ceiling.

  • Properly investigate about the animal that is living inside the ceiling. Once you are aware of the animal, then you can make an approach to get them out of your ceiling. You can recognize the animal with the help of their dropping as every animal dropping has different color, shape, and smell.
  • Find out the gaps that helped them to get into the house and into the ceiling. Most of the time, they use ducts and vents to get in on the roof, and they can break a hole on the roof.
  • Find out either there is only one raccoon or they have babies? If they have babies, then you have to remove them by cutting the ceiling. If you use odor or anything else, it will remove only adult raccoons because if their babies are too young, they may do not know how to get out of the ceiling. If they remain there, they are going to make you uncomfortable by shouting and making noises in search of their mother and food.
  • After removing the young raccoons, it’s time to remove the adult raccoon. You can use a live trap to capture them.
  • Now after removing them, fix and repair the hole. You can also hire a professional that will fix the hole of the ceiling on a permanent basis, and in the future, no raccoon will get a chance to use your ceiling. Anyhow if you believe you can seal the hole properly, then just go for it.
